60 minutes: Electronic Wasteland

This video unveiled to us the hidden side of “recycling” electronic waste, and where it actually goes. It is amazing to me that we can live in a country that says it is being “green” and getting rid of these electronic parts in ways that are beneficial for the earth, when in all actuality these parts are shipped to places in Asia, where they are stockpiled, picked through, and burned by the locals who live there. Their processes were so medieval that the entire landscape of these towns were changed, with the toxicity levels being unbearable. What was more interesting is that the people running these stockpiles in Asia would not let reporters videotape the area, and were on the verge of violence before the video crew was allowed to leave.
